Ian C. Ballon represents studios and technology companies in copyright, intellectual property and Internet litigation. He is the author of the four-volume treatise, E-Commerce and Internet Law: Treatise with Forms.

Peter L. Haviland is a trial lawyer who is Co-Chair of his firm’s Entertainment and Media Law practice group, focusing on complex commercial disputes. He was named “One of America’s Top Black Lawyers” by Black Enterprise magazine.

Faculty Members

Lisa Bonner advises clients in the music industry and serves as film production counsel. She negotiates film distribution agreements for clients in the film, cable, and network television industries.

Brandy A. Carrillo focuses on intellectual property deals, product development and licensing issues. Her deals include “Supreme Commander” with Gas Powered Games and “Company of Heroes” with Relic Entertainment.

William Sloan Coats represents clients in the hardware, computer, entertainment and movie industries. In 2008, he was appointed to the United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business Task Team on Intellectual Property Rights and Related Issues.

Robert Corn-Revere advises clients on Internet, First Amendment and FCC regulatory matters. He was lead counsel for CBS in CBS Corporation v. FCC, in which the court rejected the penalty and indecency violation levied against CBS for the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show featuring Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake.

Linda A. Goldstein is widely recognized as one of the leading advertising lawyers in the country. She represents clients in every sector of the advertising and marketing industry in advertising, intellectual property and Internet matters.

Jonathan Gottlieb focuses on general litigation and content protection matters. He also has expertise in litigation involving the First Amendment and California’s anti-SLAPP statute.

Matthew Hanna focuses on worldwide distribution of content across platforms such as basic and pay TV, pay-per-view, video-on-demand and digital home entertainment.

Maggie Heim has specialized in intellectual property litigation for 14 years. She has worked on cutting-edge cases involving the Internet and content protection and was a trustee of the Los Angeles Copyright Society.

Rex S. Heinke has represented newspapers, television networks, motion picture studios, websites and entertainment production and distribution companies in First Amendment, intellectual property, and Internet disputes.

Victor Jih practices in the areas of entertainment, copyright and trademark, First Amendment and constitutional issues. He has represented software companies, major motion picture studios, and other Internet and entertainment companies.

Steven Katleman represents clients who create and produce content for all media, emphasizing television, motion pictures and new media. He also handles other content-related matters, such as entertainment marketing and book publishing.

Michael J. Kump has extensive experience and success inside and outside the courtroom in all aspects of intellectual property, entertainment and trade secrets law. He represents USI Holdings Corporation, Starz Entertaiment, Vivendi Universal and Merle Norman Cosmetics, among others.

Mark S. Lee is an intellectual property litigator and the author of Entertainment and Intellectual Property Law (Thomson/West Legalworks, 2006). He focuses on litigation and counseling for celebrities and celebrity estates, studios, and high technology companies.

Jay McCauley entered into full-time mediation and arbitration in 1998 after practicing for 18 years as a trial and appellate lawyer. He specializes in the resolution of complex business, employment and real property disputes.

Lisa M. Nitti represents a broad range of clients, including producers, screenwriters, actors and directors, banks, Internet companies and production companies, in the motion picture and television industries.

Robert Schwartz chairs his firm’s Entertainment and Media Litigation Practice. He has 24 years of entertainment litigation experience and has represented clients on commercial and accounting disputes, intellectual property issues, credit and advertising matters, literary and film rights issues, and First Amendment rights.

Lawrence J. Ulman is Co-Chair of his firm’s Media Entertainment and Technology Practice Group, where he specializes in entertainment finance. He regularly represents film studios in their film distribution and financial matters.

John Leo Wagner has 20 years’ experience in conducting ADR processes. He left the federal bench in 1997, after 12 years as a U.S. Magistrate Judge in the Northern District of Oklahoma, to become a Director of the Irell & Manella ADR center.

Steve M. Weinberg heads his firm’s West Coast office. He specializes in intellectual property, entertainment and branded entertainment, the Internet, licensing, and advertising and marketing.
