Program Co-Chairs

Robert D. Thornton has practiced environmental
law for over 30 years and represents landowners,
resource developers and public agencies on high
profile matters. He has successfully defended over
$5 billion in regional transportation improvements
and developed regional conservation plans that
now protect hundreds of thousands of acres. He
is nationally recognized as an expert on the ESA
and regional habitat conservation plans, and his
clients and colleagues have ranked him among
the nation`s top lawyers.

Paul S. Weiland chairs his firm`s Land Use and
Natural Resources Practice Group and focuses
on compliance counseling, permitting and
litigation. His clients include public agencies,
private developers, large landowners, and trade
associations. He litigates environmental and
natural resources matters involving a variety
of statutes at both the trial and appellate court
levels. His prior experience includes serving as
lead counsel for the United States in a number of
high profile trial and appellate cases when he was
with the Justice Department.
