John J. Flynn III represents private developers and public agencies in complex land use and environmental litigation matters. He has prosecuted and defended claims based on a wide array of state and federal laws, including the Porter-Cologne Act, the California Subdivision Map Act, NEPA, ESA, and the Clean Air and Water Acts.

Rick Zbur practices in all areas of environmental law, including land use, governmental and administrative law, air quality compliance and transportation issues. He specializes in approvals and enforcement matters before the California Coastal Commission.

Steve Blank has spent the last 29 years in California as a successful businessman, conservationist and passionate teacher. He is a member of the Audubon National Board. He teaches at U.C. Berkeley Haas Business School and at Stanford in the Graduate School of Engineering.

Faculty

Michael Berger is one of California's preeminent appellate lawyers and is one of the top land use and condemnation lawyers in the United States. Mr. Berger has argued four cases before the United States Supreme Court.

Margaret "Meg" Caldwell has dedicated her career to environmental law, having worked as an attorney, professor, and board member in the field. A well-respected figure in environmental law, she was selected as the chair of the California Coastal Commission and served on that body for nearly three years.

Shirley Dettloff is the former Mayor of Huntington Beach. She is a former member of the California Coastal Commission, Chair of the Huntington Beach Planning Commission, and a member of Huntington Beach's Growth Management Committee, among many others.

Lucy Dunn negotiated the precedent-setting sale of the Bolsa Chica wetlands, and recently served as the Executive Vice President of Hearthside Homes. In 2001, she served as President of the Building Industry Association of Southern California.

John P. Erskine focuses on land use, real estate development and entitlement, CEQA, NEPA, and related environmental issues. He counsels on land use planning and entitlement concerns, and all documentation related to mixed-use projects.

David Goldberg practices in virtually all areas of environmental law. His clients include The J. Paul Getty Trust, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and Anschutz Entertainment Group.

Christi Hogin serves as City Attorney for the cities of Malibu and Lomita, and she represents the coastal cities of El Segundo, Hermosa Beach and Port Hueneme. She litigates land use, CEQA, and election issues for public entities.

Susan K. Hori emphasizes land use and environmental law, including the processing of land use entitlements for real estate development projects and the resolution of environmental issues affecting real property.

Stanley W. Lamport practices development law and land use, real estate litigation and consulting, and legal ethics. He is a member of the Select Conference on Industry Litigation.

Peter M. MacLaggan is responsible for the development of a large-scale seawater desalination project located in Carlsbad. He has over 25 years of public agency and private sector experience in water resources planning and development. He is an engineer and a lawyer.

Susan McCabe has 30 years of experience. She was previously Principal Consultant to the Assembly Energy and Natural Resources Committee, a member of the CCC, and Executive Director of a firm concerned with coastal land use issues.

Cynthia McClain-Hill leads her firm's land use, environmental law and regulatory practice and counsels on public-private partnerships. She has written numerous articles on these subjects for a Real Estate Law special edition of the Los Angeles Daily Journal.

Jamee Jordan Patterson has served as the Attorney General's litigation liaison to the Commission since 1991. She advises the Commission and represents it in litigation. She also represents the State Lands Commission, Coastal Conservancy and other state agencies.

Joel Reynolds joined the NRDC in 1990 after 10 years with the Center for Law in the Public Interest and the Western Center on Law and Poverty. He has specialized in complex law reform litigation since 1980.

Charles Stringer has 20 years of experience in water resources, endangered species and energy development, commercial transactions and public financing. He has led a number of high-stakes, multi-party initiatives to achieve a sustainable resource management.
